Even before the 2001-2002 school year began, God, through the Holy Spirit, was at work in the lives of Japheth Broeg and Kurt Schuster. Kurt, an incoming Freshman, and Japheth, a Junior, each spent the summer at their homes several hundred miles from each other. During the time leading up to the start of the semester, God laid on the heart of each man a mission to form a gathering of men, a Christian Brotherhood designed to glorify His name. Once on the SMU campus, they again felt the presence of God as He led the two men to each other. Once united, they fervently designed Christian Brotherhood @ SMU after the model of the Beta Upsilon Chi Christian fraternity.
As the semester passed, the group of interested men grew daily. During the spring semester of 2002, a several dozen men met officially for the first time as Christian Brotherhood @ SMU. Since then, the organization has gained official sponsorship of the Office of the Chaplain at Southern Methodist University and became a probationary chapter of Beta Upsilon Chi in the spring of 2003. It is indeed exciting to see the hand of God working in the lives of His sons here on the SMU campus.
